126th Annual
Competition 2012
(Founded in 1882)
Thanks to extremely hard
work by committee members and loyal helpers who were prepared to do anything required,
once again we produced a very successful Festival. Adjudicators praised the
high standards – a tribute to our teachers – and at times found difficulty in
deciding the winner. In the Piano section John Ekins won both the EPTA Cup UK
and the Cattermole award, Donna Lennard was presented with the Lila Grisley
award in the Singing section and in the Orchestral section Georgia and Isabella
Fleming won the Purcell School Chamber Music Cup which includes a Master Class
at the Purcell School This took place a few weeks ago.
The Mayor of Redbridge, the
Chairman of Redbridge Arts Council and the President of the Snaresbrook and
Wanstead Rotary Club attended the final competition – for the Young Musician of the Year, an exciting
event which was eventually won by Josephine Wilkin.
We are very grateful for
all the facilities provided at our venues, St. Mary’s Parish Church, South
Woodford and Redbridge Music Service at the John Savage Centre. We would like
to thank Redbridge Arts Council for their help and support
Our Chairman, Mr George
Birtles, has decided it is time to retire and we thank him for all he has done
and wish him well in the future. Our new Chairman is Mr Ron Skillett whom many
of our competitors and audience know.
Finally we
hope that you will take time to look through this syllabus. Changes have been
made in the attempt to provide even more interesting and challenging classes.
