Alex Weidmann entered his composition into Class 703, which was for instrumental ensembles or solo instruments, aimed at entrants aged 16 years and over.

His piece, entitled 'The World Turns', was written for violin, clarinet and piano.

In his programme notes, Alex says:

This composition explores the dichotomies that define our world.

The languid tranquility of the night versus the frenetic bustle of the daytime.

How the world can turn on a dime.

Pre-COVID versus post-COVID.

Through evolving harmonic language and shifting melodic ideas, the piece

transitions from serene simplicity to intricate complexity, and back again.

The work ultimately reflects my hope and belief in a better tomorrow.

Alex was awarded 88 marks and received an 'Honours' adjudication from Adrian Goss.

Alex has kindly agreed to let us share a pdf and sound file of his composition.

He is currently writing a piece for guitar, as part of a project for the London Composers Forum. This is for a concert performance by professional guitarist Alvaro Ibarra.
